HOUSING SERVICE DURING THE 2025 UNIVERSIADE: ANSWERS TO MAIN QUESTIONS

HOUSING SERVICE DURING THE 2025 UNIVERSIADE: ANSWERS TO MAIN QUESTIONS

USE OF THREE EDISU RESIDENCES TO HOST SPORTS DELEGATIONS PARTICIPATING TO THE TURIN 2025 WORLD WINTER UNIVERSIADE

1) I have been assigned to one of the residences involved in the Universiade, what are the exact dates I will have to leave the accommodation?

The period in which you will have to leave the residence is from 3 to 26 January 2025 (23 nights)

2) I have been assigned to one of the residences dedicated to the Universiade and I have declared that I am willing to leave the accommodation in exchange for monetization, am I guaranteed to be able to receive it?

Yes, you will receive the monetization of the bed space (€8.18 euros for each night) which will be guaranteed to all students who chose this option during the online acceptance phase. By the end of October you will be notified of the method by which the monetization will be provided

3) I have been assigned to one of the three residences that will be allocated to the sports delegations of the Universiade, but I cannot ask for monetization as I will NOT be able to have an alternative solution in the period from 3 to 26 January 2025: I understand that I will have to move to another residence that you will indicate to me, but I am unable to transport my packages and personal effects, what can I do?

All male and female students will be guaranteed a free transport service for parcels and personal effects, from the Edisu residence to the one where they are assigned during the Universiade period. Therefore, upon your arrival at the new residence you will find your personal belongings directly inside the room that will be assigned to you. At the end of the period the parcels will be transferred back to your residence.

4) I have been assigned to one of the residences that will have to be vacated during the Universiade period, and I will leaving the accomodation having found a temporary housing solution; Will I have to remove all the parcels out of my room?

If in the residences where you are staying there are warehouses or similar premises, you can leave them directly at the residence, vice versa if there are no such premises, Edisu will identify other rooms and spaces that will be communicated to you and the transport will be managed directly by a special service, with costs paid by Edisu

5) During the online acceptance phase I declared that I needed the bed, but I found an alternative solution, can I change my choice? Can I ask for monetization?

If you initially chose to be assigned to a different non-Edisu residence, you will also be able to request monetization at a later time. However, the opposite (switching from monetization to a bed in a non-Edisu residence) will not be possible for organizational reasons.

6) I am currently in a single room and I declared in the online acceptance that I do not have another accommodation: during my transfer to another residence that Edisu will indicate to me, will I still be assigned to a single room?

The type of room will be taken into consideration, compatibly with the availability of the host residence. Therefore it is not guaranteed that you will be assigned to a single room.

7) I have no alternative solutions: is it true that I will be evicted?

No, it’s absolutely false. An eviction occurs when the owner of a property regains possession without caring about the fate of the tenant or whoever lives there. For those who do not have alternative solutions and wish to continue to have an accommodation in Turin, Edisu will arrange to accommodate them in residences completely similar to those of Edisu, (with the same, if not better, standard of services). All located in the city center near of the universities or main university campuses.

Moreover, as mentioned above, Edisu will also take care of the transfer of luggage or other personal effects from the assigned residence to the one that will only be used temporarily. Therefore, each student will leave his or her Edisu residence on the morning of 3 January 2025 to go to the University and will be able to enter the new residence they will only use temporarily, in the early afternoon of the same day, thus enduring very minimal discomfort.

8) But then what we hear about 800 students being evicted from Edisu because of the Universiade is not true?

No, it is absolutely untrue. In this regard, the numbers should also be clarified. The male and female students who will be asked to temporarily (from 3 to 26 January 2025) leave their accommodations at the Edisu residences in Villa Claretta, Olimpia and Lingotto are total 818. Of these, 220 will be relocated to other Edisu university residences in Turin. Of the remaining 598, most have chosen the option given to them of monetising the accommodations  they will not use. This choice was made by those who managed to find an alternative situation, perhaps with friends or relatives, or by those who live in a municipality not far from Turin, or by those who would prefer to extend their Christmas holidays at home, far from Turin, etc. The remaining male and female students who have declared that they have no alternative solutions and who wish to remain in Turin even during the Universiade period will in any case be satisfied and will be assigned an accommodation in other university residences (not managed by Edisu), all located in the city centre and all with a standard of services at least similar to that of Edisu. Obviously, for these latter students, the relative costs will all be borne by Edisu.

9) But why did Edisu decide to grant three of its own residences to the Universiade? To make a profit?

Absolutely not. Edisu will receive from the Organising Committee of the Turin 2025 Winter Universiade only the reimbursement of all the expenses it will incur, without the slightest profit.
The choice of the three Edisu residences was desired by Fisu (International University Sports Federation), whose strict standards require that sports delegations stay in suitable accommodation facilities exclusively reserved for athletes, their companions and organisational staff.
The Edisu residences were deemed the most suitable as (two out of three) they were built precisely to host sports delegations during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. This choice was also considered the most suitable by the Public Security Authorities.
The alternative would have been not to hold the next Winter Universiade in Turin, renouncing not only the great significance that they could have for the entire Piedmont region and for the entire university system, but also and above all those messages of peace, friendship and fraternity coming from students of different nationalities, languages and cultures. Messages that today, more than ever, appear fundamental.
